My guess is that many of you are like me, every time you watch or read Anne of Green Gables you have a newfound desire for the same whimsical lifestyle.

A while ago I re-watched the movies as well as re-read the books and after many futile attempts to make my life more aesthetic and “perfect” I came to the conclusion that Anne’s story is not one of aesthetic perfection.

Living whimsically is not living perfectly; perfect dress, setting, weather, and peaceful evenings are not what should determine your happiness or joy. In the opening scene of the movie Anne is living with an insufferable family, far from perfect, yet she is still able to delight in the tale of The Lady of Shalott. Consequently, she is also able to delight in Green Gables and Lover Lane, not out of ideal circumstances but from a heart that rests in simplicity.

I live in North Texas where trees are scarce, however born and raised in Washington it becomes far too easy for discontent to set in. I took for granted being surrounded with so much magnificence. Now, it’s tempting for me to resent that I moved away from a place that has such a similar breathtaking landscape as Green Gables.

Yet, through much prayer the Lord has opened my eyes to the fact that Anne was not able to delight in the awe of Green Gables because of perfection, but because she could recognize small simple beauty when she had little. I’ve learned that delighting in the whimsical simple life is less about the stars aligning on a perfect day and more about an intentional choice to delight and seek the blessings of today.

What opportunities has God placed in your lap right now? What season are you in? Delight in that, even if the beauty is hard to see. Try exploring different hobbies or simple actions that are fulfilling to you. Let us reawaken our hearts instead of only striving for efficacy. The point of this is not to create a checklist or obtain a higher level of joy, but to delight in today and find beauty in small things amidst the imperfection and business of everyday life!

Explore what intentional hobbies and habits help bring your mind to hidden beauty. Here are some small things I like to implement into my life to create a little more whimsy!

• Journaling: It really helps me process the day and realize the fruitlessness of many of my stresses and worries. Journaling prayers, or praying over what I have written also helps me bring my busy thoughts before the Lord!

• Reading a comfort book: even if you only ready the first chapter you don’t need to be afraid of picking up a book because you MUST finish it, read for the joy of the story! I’ve started the Lord of The Rings about a million times just to get lost in the beauty of it.

• Going out to coffee on your own: I LOVE getting coffee with friends and mentors, however there is something really whimsical about getting a cup of coffee while reading or writing on your own. (Don’t listen to the voice of fear that says its uncomfortable to go out by yourself, I promise it’s not that scary! ;)

• Just sit: I know it sounds crazy, because the idea of simply sitting may not seem enjoyable or fruitful, especially if you’re like me and always want to be doing something! However, this is something I’ve been trying to implement into my personal life and it is amazing how the Lord speaks or what deep thinking you can do by just sitting and letting your thoughts wander without the distraction of technology.

• Find a new creative hobby: trying something new is always fun, even if no one sees the terrible water colored bunny you attempted. Simply find joy in the process of creating!

• Take a walk with no technologies: as much as I love listening to audiobooks and music, detaching from all technologies for at least 20 min a day really helps me focus on simple details!

I am on a mission to have the most American Girl coded summer ever!

Yes, I’m a 90’s baby who is still obsessed with the literary characters of her childhood. If you didn’t grow up with these iconic dolls and books, you may not understand the extent to which these stories shaped me. I stitched my first sampler with Felicity Merriman, while I learned all about the American Revolution, and dreamed of having a copper horse as beautiful as Penny.

I created a newsletter for my friends, just like Kit Kittridge did, in her stuffy little attic bedroom. I tap-danced along with Molly while she fought to keep her hopes high during World War Two, and dreamed of hosting an elegant, early nineteen-hundreds tea party for my friends, like Samantha Parkington had for her tenth birthday.

When I hear the words “whimsical girlhood”, I immediately think of American Girl!

So, now that I’m a full grown adult with the ability to host elegant soiree’s, sketch for hours in the sunshine like Samantha on Teardrop Island, or bake the chocolate cake of Molly’s dreams…I’m ready to take on the challenge! I’m ready to have the most American Girl coded summer ever…and I want to do it along with you!

The only problem is, there are so many classic characters to choose from…how will I ever decide!? I have more ideas than there are hours in the day, so we need to narrow things down a bit. Help me decide which classic American Girl to fashion my summer fun after!

Felicity’s Summer Vibe:

Felicity’s colonial summer vibe is elegant, sophisticated, and adventerous!
I can imagine a summer full of needlepoint projects, baked apple treats, and fun little crafts.

Kit’s Summer Vibe:

I imagine Kit’s summer would be imagination, creativity, and typewriter action! Reporting the news, darning socks, and planting veggies, were all part of Kit’s summer routine.

Molly’s Summer Vibe:

Miss Molly spent her summer at Camp Gowonagin, camping, hiking, canoeing, and competing! I might have to test some of my limits with a Molly-themed summer!

Samantha’s Summer Vibe:

Samantha’s summer vibes are truly quintessential. (Seriously, how can you not be obsessed with her little outfit?!) A Samantha summer would have to embrace the beauty of creation, sketching, painting, and slowing down to enjoy the little miracles all around us.

I am not sure if matrimony is for me or not but I’m curious what you would advise to a women who seems to find herself in a loop of not liking the attentions of the men who give them to her and not receiving the attentions of the men who she would like to be giving them to her. How does one get the attractions to align?!

Dear Mis(s) Aligned,

You are wise, very wise indeed, for coming to me with this urgent matter! I commend you for your fortitude in writing such a missive, for many young ladies with frail courage attempt to cover up their blemishes and shortcomings. But you, my dear, have confessed a deep character flaw, and we shall rectify your failings with great haste!

I must conclude from your pen, that you are a lovely young woman with many charms. I imagine you are highly esteemed and well-accomplished in music, drawing, dancing, the modern languages, and elegant conversation. (You’ve given me no reason to believe otherwise, as you’ve proven great sense in writing to me.)

First, we must address the attention you’re receiving from the gentlemen in your district. You are to be applauded! Why, turning a gentlemen’s head, no matter his age, status, or pocketbook, is an accomplishment worthy of celebration. Is his company really so unfavorable? Does he have a sinful vice? Is he of ill report? Is he man of poor social standing, lacking connections? If you cannot fairly peg one of the above complaints on the lad, I fear you may be presumptuous in turning down his affections.

I find that young ladies are are too particular in finding a match. Their minds are addled with foolish, youthful, romantic sentiment, encouraged by the hazardous woes of fiction! (Why, my own Lizzie turned down a perfectly acceptable match with the aimable Mr. Collins, condemning the poor lad for not possessing the charms to bring about her eternal felicity, or some such fiddle-faddle!) But, I digress. There is one strong character flaw that we must steer clear from, and if the young men flowering you with attentions possess this troublesome vice, you must do everything possible to discourage their affections, immediately!

Should the young men possess less than than four or five thousand pounds a year, he is not worth your time ‘nor attention! There are precious few things in life more devastating than becoming an old, unattached spinster, and that is to marry a man without means!

To attract a wealthy suitor is one of life’s chief joys! A young woman who dedicates her attention to the task shall be rewarded with endless felicity!

I shall draw my advise to a tidy ending, so not to twaddle on about the subject. Let me leave you with my final thoughts on the matter. Finding a wealthy suitor is of utmost importance, and should be cherished above all other virtues. Should the men in your company lack in fortune, it is time to set your hopes elsewhere; upward and onward!

I advise you to drop your hankie only for a man of four or five thousand pounds a year. No less. (And, should you happen to catch a man of ten-thousand a year like my silly Lizzie managed to achieve, this mother’s heart shall burst with such joy at your accomplishment! Why, I expect to be invited to the municipals, should such a fortuitous match occur!)

Quiet time, devotional time—whatever you personally call it—is such a foundational part of walking with the Lord. It’s a daily space to be with Him, seek His kingdom first, and ground yourself in Him, even in the middle of ordinary, everyday life.

There are seasons, however, when we deeply yearn for a fresh encounter with the Lord—something that goes beyond our regular routine. We may be walking through relational challenges, needing clarity for a decision, or simply feeling spiritually dry.

Whatever the reason may be, this could be a beautiful opportunity to try and engage with the Lord in a new, creative way. A “solo date” with God, we’re calling it.

We know, we know. Cringe.

You may have been immediately brought back to corny advice from well-meaning youth pastors, saying to focus on “dating Jesus” instead of boys, and that’s not what we’re talking about here.

This is a designated time and space to step away from your usual responsibilities for a bit. Think of it like a reset—a mini retreat. Except instead of connecting with other women or hearing from speakers, you’re connecting with God and intentionally making space to listen.

Our relationship with the Lord is called a relationship for a reason—it’s personal. It’s built on trust, time spent together, and moments we carry with us long after they’ve passed. And how beautiful is it that He promises that when we draw near to Him, He will draw near to us (James 4:8)?

There’s nothing to lose and everything to gain from carving out intentional time with Him. But what does that actually look like? Does it have to be perfectly planned to “count”? And how do you keep it from turning into just another aesthetic moment, instead of real rest in His presence?

If you’ve ever felt unsure where to start, here are a few things to keep in mind as you plan your own solo date with God:

Honor the Season of Life You’re In

This one is huge.

Especially for us emotive girlies, we often think that long, drawn-out prayer or journaling sessions are what make time with God meaningful. Like if it wasn’t deep, emotional, or an hour-plus long… did it even “count”?

And listen, we’re not downplaying a good journaling session or extended prayer time. Those are beautiful and valuable in their own way.

But be honest with yourself. Not everyone has one, two, or three uninterrupted hours to step away. And if you do—hey, that’s amazing. Truly. But for a lot of us, that’s just not a reality.

Maybe you’re working, in school, have family responsibilities, or juggling all three. Your time and energy are limited, and that matters.

So instead of forcing a version of time with God that doesn’t actually fit your life, see where you can get creative and find time in a way that feels set apart but still practical. That might mean a solo date with God looks like a slow Saturday morning before the house wakes up. Or a quiet weeknight after everything settles. Or even a Sunday afternoon reset after church.

It doesn’t have to be long to be meaningful. It just has to be intentional.

Because the goal isn’t to impress God with how much time you can give Him, it’s to actually be with Him in the time you do have.

And when you let go of unrealistic expectations, you make room for something way more honest, sustainable, and real.

Learn Yourself & What Helps You Reset

You might be a bookworm, a green thumb, an artist, a professional car singer, a long-walk lover, or someone who loves moving your body.

That’s not random, by the way, friend. The Lord made you like that on purpose!

Part of learning yourself is paying attention to what actually helps you slow down—what makes you feel at home in your own mind and body. The things that quiet the noise enough for you to notice Him.

Maybe it’s sitting outside with your Bible and a coffee. Maybe it’s a prayer walk with no headphones. Maybe it’s painting, journaling, or even just driving in silence and talking to God out loud. These aren’t “extra” things. They’re invitations to slow down and consider the lilies (Matthew 6:28–30). To become more aware of His presence. To let your mind be renewed in ways that don’t always happen when you’re rushing through a checklist.

Now, this might take a little courage.

It can feel easier to stick to what’s familiar—or to avoid making time altogether when it feels inconvenient or requires effort. But there’s something really beautiful on the other side of choosing to show up anyway.

Try new things. Revisit the things you know that ground you. Pay attention to what helps you truly connect, not just what looks or feels “spiritual.”

Time with God doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s to be genuine. When you start leaning into the way you were designed, you might be surprised how naturally it leads you back to Him.

Come With an Expectant Heart and Open Hands

Do you ever feel like time with God has to have an applicable takeaway? It’s almost like, unless we leave renewed, inspired, or with a clear answer about something, we second-guess whether we heard from the Lord at all. It’s easy to slip into that mindset.

But the point of a solo date isn’t to “get” something from him. Yes, there will be times when you process things with Him, ask for wisdom, or pour your heart out about what’s hard, which God sees and truly cares about. If that becomes the only way we approach Him, we can start treating Him more like an answer-giver than a Person.

That’s not what a relationship looks like.

Most of the time, the invitation is simpler than we make it: just be with Him.

That might look like setting aside your mental to-do list for a moment (easier said than done) and talking to Him the way you would a close friend. Sitting in silence. Not rushing to fill every second. Letting His presence be enough.

At the end of the day, a solo date with God isn’t about doing it “right” or making it look a certain way. It’s about showing up, choosing, in the middle of a full and sometimes overwhelming life, to step away—even briefly—and be with Him on purpose. Sometimes it will feel deep and emotional. Other days it might feel simple, quiet, or even a little ordinary. That doesn’t make it any less meaningful.

Good news is, you’re not chasing a feeling—you’re building a relationship.

And relationships are formed over time, through small, consistent choices to be present. So don’t overthink it!

Pick a time. Pick a place. Bring whatever you have—your thoughts, your questions, your joy, your exhaustion—and meet Him there. He’s not waiting for you to have it all together.

He’s just waiting for you.

Have you heard whispers of the Kingdom of God fading?

As women of Christ, we were put on this earth to spread light. In this day and age, the world can seem a bit too dark, giving the illusion that all hope is lost. Especially when everywhere you look there are a multitude of voices telling you His kingdom is fading.

I, myself have come across people, asking them “What do you believe?” Some have said they are spiritual but not religious. Others have claimed to know God, but with further conversation it seems they do not actually know the God they claim to follow.

This can be incredibly discouraging and I am here to encourage you to hold onto His hope and continue to spread the Gospel.

Psalm 145:13

Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures throughout all generations [The Lord is faithful in all his words and kind in all his works.]

The Kingdom stands, regardless of the whispers that linger in the media that claim the reign of Christ is on the decline. When we are consumed in the banter, it can leave a sense of urgency that is fueled by the motive of fear.

Joshua 1:9

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

So instead of focusing on what falsehoods are being spoken, let’s look to the Father who is with us wherever we go! Let’s continue to spread the good news!

Isaiah 42:7

“To open the eyes that are blind, to free captives from prison and to release from the dungeon those who sit in darkness.”

Left and right the Lord is opening the hearts of others. The hope of His kingdom is being seen and heard across the Global South.

So what does this mean? Other children, sons and daughters, are hearing the good news predominantly in Latin America, Africa, and Asia.

Despite these continents facing persecution and fear, they are seeing major growth.

In Nigeria the hurdle of Islam has not stopped the spreading of the good news.

Individuals like Salisu Bala, age 32, who came from a predominantly muslim area. Christians are brutally persecuted on a regular basis. Despite this, the Lord has encountered him in his dreams. He shared these God-given dreams with a Christian friend in secret and gave his life to Christ. Sadly, his faith was discovered by his family. He was put in isolation in a room with no food and water for 4 days in an attempt to have him renounce Christ. He could not bring himself to do it. Thankfully, a friend who practices Islam rescued him from the confines of his room. He is now under special care of a pastor, whose name is not shared for safety reasons.

In China, though nearly eradicated, government restriction has not stopped the growth of believers in Christ.

In rural China, is a village formerly known as the “village of thieves.” Even though each one would get locked up, it would become a game of steal, jail, release, and repeat. Years later it was reported by a local’s mother that one by one the village was no longer full of thieves but followers of Jesus Christ. The local, who wrote the article referenced, visited during New Years and found several in the local church had been transformed into beings full of peace and joy.

In India even with the competing religion of Hinduism, Christianity continues to grow.

Rethanim, now 45 years old, from a rural town in Tamil Nadu, looks at her wedding photos with deep sadness. She went through harsh persecution from her family due to marrying a Christian man. Though in the beginning, they were ‘accepting’ of her new faith, due to thinking she would return to Hinduism, they disowned her when she went through with the marriage and ran from her former life and religion.

South Korea sends out more missionaries than most other countries, closely following the U.S. to spread the good news.

It has been a quiet yet explosive revival within the country of South Korea. It all started in tents and transformed into buildings holding numerous people. All thanks to the Lord who put it on the hearts before the current generation to silently pray and to meet in secret.

This is only to list a few, there are so much more waking up to the goodness of the Gospel. It is causing a ripple effect in individuals like the ones mentioned above to spread the faith they have so boldly embraced.

Psalm 24:1

The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein.

The world and those in it belong to Him! He has the whole world in his hands. His kingdom will spread and is spreading and cannot fail.

So you– yes, you –the daughters of the one true King, are part of a kingdom that cannot fade. His kingdom is everlasting.

Be awake in a world that sleeps and boldly spreads His light.

Spread the good news and invite those you come across in all walks of life to church.

Encourage one another when things get tough.

Be the hands and feet that the Lord has called you to be.

For His kingdom shall forever stand. Thank the Lord we get to be a part of it!

Looking back, it’s absolutely wild to see how God used my love for that magazine to plant seeds in my heart about one day launching a magazine of my own.

It’s so sweet to think that the seeds God places in us as little children are meant to come fully into bloo in our adult years. It’s quite the phenomenon to realize that “growing up” is all about unlearning some things, shedding some fear, and slowing down for long enough to realize that our "inner child” might actually know a thing or two about flourishing. Little me knew what she was meant to be. What she was meant to do. But it wasn’t until I embraced Jesus’ words to have “Faith like a child”, that I began to unravel the true beauty of girlhood.

Dreaming for the launch of Crown of Beauty Magazine has been an absolute blast.
It’s been keeping me up way past midnight, for far too many nights in a row! It’s also caused me to dig up the old American Girl Magazines archived online and flip through them. Sadly, I didn’t keep any of the physical publications from childhood, but thank the Lord for the Internet Archive! Taking time to explore this fun little blast to the past got my wheels turning…

I know this idea is geared more toward millennials who grew up with AG, but humor me here for a second.

What if we explored the past together, in a cutesy little nostalgia kick series, where we choose to embark on one of the following challenges:

Idea #1 - The Summer of AG

What if, this summer, I try to do everything in the Summer 2005 AG issue, as an adult!? Chances are, I’d be hosting a backyard sprinkler party and selling painted rocks to my neighbors! 😂

Idea #2 - Get Smart

What if, I tried to apply all the advice from one of the American Girl A Smart Girls Guide to… Book Series?! (Maybe I could learn a thing or two if I read
A Smart Girls Guide to Boys. I didn’t think I needed that one as a kid, haha!)

Idea #3 - Go to the Library

What if, I chose one of the dozens of “American Girl Library” books and conquered everything in it?! Who knows, I might be hosting a slumber party, babysitting, crafting, or making new friends!

Idea #4 - Return to the Classics

What if I chose a classic American Girl book (I’m thinking Samantha, Molly, Felicity, or Kit!) and worked to have the most whimsical, AG-coded summer possible?!

As we embark on the most thrilling task of creating a magazine, I couldn’t help but think that no magazine is complete without an advice column.
Where else does one turn to, when she is overwhelmed with affairs of the heart?
I thought it would be wise, and most becoming of us, to ask a woman far wiser and experienced. Who better to ask, than a woman who has proudly married off all five of her daughters? (It’s still highly debated whether or not Mary Bennett married one of her Uncle’s law clerks, it is more likely that little trifle of gossip was invented by Mrs. Bennett to boost her reputation.)
In today’s dating and marriage market, it is a truth universally acknowledged that we could use all the help we can get. And so, I felt compelled to ask Mrs. Bennett to be a regular contributor here at Crown of Beauty. We are ever grateful for the selfless service she is offering humanity. (Yes, she told me to add that, but that’s enough from me, here are a few words from Mrs. Bennett herself!)

My Dearest young ladies,
Allow me to address you plainly. Love does not simply arrive on one’s doorstep.
Love must be encouraged, pursued, and when at all possible…married most swiftly.
It has come to my attention that a great lot of you aren’t doing your fair share to present yourselves in society. You fail to frequent gatherings where such a match could be made. Dinners, balls, musicals…anywhere where young men of great fortune may be present!

I understand that your opportunities to converse with young men are quite limited. You mingle for only a few brief moments while rising from the church pews, before rushing out of the building as if your skirts were ablaze! This will not do.

No, I shall generously take you under my wing and instruct your addlebrained mind in the ways of proper society. I am an expert in affairs of the heart, after all!
I have a great plethora of of experience in marrying of all five of my lovely daughters, to men of great fortune and means, I might add.

Now, as I am taking the liberty to boast in my expertise, I will add that you need not limit your distress-filled missives to talk of handsome officers. Affairs of the heart scope long and wide, to female friendships, familial discord, and entrepreneurial endeavors. You shall find my advice in all areas of a young woman’s life highly prudent. Do not be shy my dear girls, I assure you that there is not a missive I will fail to answer! Save, perhaps, your inquiries concerning affairs in the kitchen. I refuse to discuss such matters, as it is below my station. Please address all boiled potato inquiries to my daughter, Lizzy. She seems to receive those quite frequently, though I have not the slightest idea why.

Dear Ramona,

This is a letter to little me.

To the girl who spent rainy afternoons in her cozy local library, getting lost in far-away stories, dreaming of the life she could someday lead. To the little girl who believed there were no limits. No boxes or boundaries, no dark voices of fear.

To the girl who drew every self portrait of a dazzling beauty onstage, wearing a Purple Pizzazz Crayola princess-gown, and a scribbled golden crown.

Your audacious little soul dreamed of owning her own library, writing hundreds of books, and being a mama to dozens of children. Little Livy could do it all in her imagination.

If I were to describe my mini-me to someone else, I would point to Ramona Quimby. We had quite a lot in common with the iconic character. But I suppose I didn’t realize exactly how similar we were, until I watched the 2010 film, Ramona and Beezus.

Ramona dances onto the stage living out the most whimsical, quintessential, 90’s-coded-childhood, with an imagination larger than life. I too, grew up in a cozy cul de sac, where we played with the neighborhood children, rode bikes, hosted lemonade stands, and ran through the sprinklers.

Ramona’s romantic childhood was just as flawless as my own - until it wasn’t.

The rose-colored-glasses shatter as the story suddenly shifts. Mr. Quimby comes home with terribly upsetting news for an eight-year-old. He lost his job.

Ramona takes on an unspoken weight of responsibility, as she tries her hardest to ensure that everyone in her family remains happy, emotionally healthy, and financially secure. That simple shift in perspective, the adoption of trying to create stability for herself, and everyone else, in a world that feels like it’s on the verge of falling apart, punched me in the gut.

Little Livy, you did the same thing. You took on an invisible cloak of care and responsibility for your family. You hated to see your mother cry. You never wanted your parents to fight. You were determined to bring joy, and happiness, and thought that maybe just maybe, if you tried hard enough, things wouldn’t fall apart.

When Grandma was diagnosed with cancer, you thought, “I have to be strong. For mom.”

When Dad lost his job, you thought, “I have to be strong. To have a good attitude. No matter what, I can’t be a burden.”

Subconsciously, you told yourself, “I can’t struggle. Things are hard enough for my parents as it is.”

You believed the same lie Ramona did…and that was the day your childhood began to erode.

Fast forward a few years, and the bricks and burdens continued to pile up. Exposure to the heartbreaking realities of this world caused you to diminish and cover up your own pain.

You thought, “What are my puny little problems compared to everyone else’s? Why talk about them? Why burden a friend, or a mentor, when it’s not really that big of a deal compared to everyone else?”

But watching Ramona, tears filling my eyes as I saw Little Livy shoulder burdens that she was never meant to carry, filled me with the desire to apologize. To write a letter to my tiny self, and say:

I’m so sorry you felt that you believed you had to do all of that, just to feel safe.
God gave you a gift - a wildly beautiful imagination. An ability to see beyond a dreary grey sky, and into the magic of what could be. But you didn’t have to be your parents fairygodmother. You didn’t have to stuff your emotions and trick yourself into believing that if you so intensely focused on the good, that all your pain and insecurity would just magically disappear.

And now, a few words for adult Livy. (And for anyone else who resonates with Ramona’s story.)

It’s okay to need healing. It’s okay that you don’t have some wildly dramatic, traumatic backstory, but you still have hurts. God doesn’t rate our stories on a trauma scale, and say, “My daughter who appeared to have a perfectly normal childhood from the classic definition of society is far less important than My daughter who suffered abuse. Get in line, your pain isn’t a big deal, it can scarcely be classified as ‘pain’, suck it up!”

Jesus desires to bring healing to every part of our hearts, even the tiniest of cracks, bruises, and bumps.

There’s so much talk today about “healing your inner child”, but our Heavenly Father desires to bring us true, lasting, wholeness.

It’s okay to talk to God about your childhood. In fact, it’s more than okay. He desires to heal some of your most painful memories…no matter how small they may be.

The events of our childhood and how we interpret them shape so much of our perspective on life, how we relate to others, and how we relate to ourselves.

So, this is your official permission slip to sit with Jesus and unpack your past. I know it was beautiful, and challenging and everything inbetween, but that’s just life, isn’t it? Look at the book of Psalms. Joy, heartache, healing, deliverance…it’s all there!
And God wants us to talk to Him about all of it.

And, He wants to talk to us too.

Ask Him. “Holy Spirit, where were You the day my world fell apart?
What was the moment I first felt like I needed to grapple for control, rather than trust You? What were You doing, the day my Dad left? What did You think about that day, that moment?”

And let Him speak. He wants to bring healing. He wants to show you exactly what He was thinking…let Him show you where He was, how He was covering you, and how He was protecting you. What He was saying then? And what He is staying today?

Our God is a God of restoration! He will redeem everything the enemy has stolen. He wants to reshape the way you saw your childhood, and what you think about it now.

So, Little Livy, you’re getting a second chance. Your whimsy-filled, limitless, joy-exploding “Ramona Era” isn’t over! God is taking us back to the days before fear came knocking. To the innocence of childhood, before the enemy spewed out his first lie.

You’re going back to the garden. Jesus is restoring to you the joy of your salvation! And that includes becoming everything God planted inside of that little girl.

Nothing missing. Nothing broken.

The brand of magic that happens when God’s daughters come together for a greater purpose than themselves! When we join together in unity around our love for Jesus and our passion to pour into this next generation of young women…we are unstoppable!

So first of all, thank you. If you’re reading these words, it’s because something leapt in your heart at the idea of spending less time on your phone, and more time flipping through physical magazine pages that draw you closer to Jesus and fill your heart with whimsy!

You get to be part of something wildly special. Together, we’re building this from the ground up.

Join the Discussion: What drew you to join the Founders Club? Why did you want to step into this community? What are you most excited about? :D

I never thought I’d be writing this.

Five years ago, when I wrote the last article for Crown of Beauty Magazine, I thought it was over. After running a thriving ministry and magazine since 2013, I was getting ready to birth a new dream: move to Nashville, Tennessee! I had transitioned from full time magazine editor, to full time author, and was ready for a new season!

I had no idea what the adventure would hold. Would I pursue a music career in the City of Dreams? Would I publish more books? Become a full-time Podcaster? Transition into overseas mission work? The possibilities were endless!

My move was exciting & exhilarating, but also hard. In a city where EVERYONE is doing something cool, I struggled to find my place. I had just surrendered the absolute coolest thing I had ever done in my life (running a magazine, hosting conferences, collaborating with amazing Jesus-lovers all over the globe!), and laid it on the altar. The season had changed, and I needed to move on.

If I’m completely honest with myself, I feel as if I’ve spent the past 5 years floundering, a little insecure, a little confused, asking all the classic questions;
how much should I be “waiting” on God, and how much should I be pushing through to make my “dreams come true”?

At 32 years old, I was really hoping to have my life figured out by now. I would’ve loved to be married and dancing with my babies around the kitchen table. It might’ve been nice to have a NYT Bestselling book, or an open door to build an orphanage in India. You know, big, exciting, trying-to-catch-your-breath from the thrill of the adventure, kind of stuff.

Don’t get me wrong, these past 5 years have been sweet, and fulfilling, and challenging, and rewarding, all at once. But if I’m totally real with myself, there was a small part of me that stopped dreaming when I got to Nashville. Maybe it was intimidation. Maybe it was fear. Maybe I got sung to sleep by the the culture and the algorithm and the thousand of voices competing daily for my attention.

I spent the better part of last year, asking God, “WHAT ARE WE DOING HERE? Why do You have me here!? What am I supposed to be doing with my life?!”

And finally, in November, right before my birthday, the answers came. I woke up, dead out of my sleep, in the middle of the night, as my spirit literally exploded with vision. All at once, everything danced before my mind - Crown of Beauty Magazine - the electric covers, the gorgeous photoshoots, the unforgettable conferences…I could see it all. Everything I’d ever asked the Lord for. Everything that had yet to come to pass…Dreams I had literally forgotten about. It was all erupting back to life, faster than I could keep up with.

Needless to say, I didn’t sleep that night. I heard the clarion call loud and clear.

Crown of Beauty Magazine isn’t finished.

There is a WHOLE new generation of girls who need to know the truth of who they are in Christ. They need big sisters, strong women of faith, to come alongside, pour into them, and reveal Jesus. The brokenness we’re facing in our world is intensifying with each passing day. I so often find myself uttering the words, “I can’t imagine being a teen in today’s world”. Or, “What happened to magazines!? Why did they all have to die off? Why can’t we just slow down and flip through the pages of a magazine, rather than get sucked into our phones?”

And I know I’m not the only one who feels this way. Which is why the resurrection of Crown of Beauty Magazine, is not my project.

It’s yours.

God is raising up a collective of voices, a generation of Godly women, who know what it means to be faithful, in season, and out of season. He hasn’t just planted a message inside of you, He has shaped your whole life to become that message. And it’s time for you to share. To pick up your pen, or your microphone, or your paintbrush, or whatever creative avenue He’s called you to, and it’s time to share.

He is reviving dreams. He is breathing His Spirit upon the dead and dry places, the secret dreams that have been long buried, the prayers that have been faithfully cultivated in the dark, secret places.

Now is the time for these things to sprout up. Sweet sister, God is going to give you a platform. He is going to open doors for you. Sleeping Beauty, it’s time to awaken.

CASTING THE VISION

The grand vision for Crown of Beauty Magazine is a quarterly, in-print publication centering around Biblical womanhood, whimsical party ideas, timeless fashion, Kingdom creativity, and what it looks like to live a flourishing, full, royal life, as daughters of the King.

We’ll host conferences, retreats, podcasts, and Bible Studies. Our mission?

To release captives by releasing the truth of Isaiah 61! To bestow beauty in exchange for ashes. To leave a legacy for this next generation of girls. To let them know they’re not alone, and God has an amazing plan for their lives!

CASTING THE CALL: Crown of Beauty Ambassadors

This vision is far larger than anything I could execute on my own. I told God,
“I’m not going to do this if it’s going to be just another ‘Livy’ project.
YOU have to bring the women to lock arms with and pursue this dream together!
YOU have to stir up the desire in those who are destined to collaborate on this!”

I’ll be partnering with seven Crown of Beauty Ambassadors. Women (or teens, no age limit here!) who embody the passion of Jesus and walk in a unique, Kingdom expression of what they feel called to. Whether that’s writing, music, content creation, business-building, acting, or being a faithful stay-at-home mama… I’m seeking kindred spirits, Proverbs 31 and 1st Peter 3:3 kind of gals!

Our Ambassadors Team will:
-grow in friendship together!
-commit to praying for this project
-share Crown of Beauty content, posts, and updates on their social media
-create content for our social pages (or do collab posts)
-have front row, first dibs on opportunities to collaborate and submit to the magazine (could include writing, photoshoots, photoshoots, video-shoots, podcasts, etc.)
